Super Consumers Australia Founder Awarded AM
Super Consumers Australia congratulates its founder and Board Director Jenni Mack on receiving an AM for her significant service to business through consumer advocacy roles.
Ms Mack has tirelessly championed consumer rights, particularly in superannuation.
She established Super Consumers Australia (formerly Superannuation Consumers’ Centre) in 2013, when she was Chair of CHOICE (Australian Consumers’ Association), to ensure that consumers had a voice in superannuation debates.
The three trillion dollar industry has been without a strong consumer advocate, resulting in a lack of balance in key policy debates aimed at improving the sector. This has resulted in some people being left to languish in underperforming funds and inappropropriate insurance products.
Ms Mack has since worked tirelessly to secure funding for the organisation, which officially launched as Super Consumers Australia in September 2019.
Super Consumers Australia has partnered with CHOICE (Australian Consumers’ Association) while in its startup phase. It currently relies on a community benefit payment of $2.5 million, which it received from ASIC in 2018. The organisation is seeking ongoing funding as this money is due to run out by mid 2021.
In December 2019 the Federal Government launched an expression of interest process to permanently fund a superannuation consumer advocacy body.
