New podcast from CHOICE and Super Consumers Australia puts a human face on Australia’s biggest superannuation collapse

27 Oct 2026  |  Author Antoinette Dyce

The Collapse tells the story of the $1 billion Shield and First Guardian disaster as it’s never been told before

In an original investigative podcast series we’ve produced with CHOICE, investigative journalist Jarni Blakkarly uncovers the human story behind Australia’s biggest superannuation scandal, and asks the question: how did this happen?

We’ve collaborated on this important piece of work because we’re dedicated to amplifying the voices of those affected, championing journalism, and interrogating the failures that led to the collapses.

Through our Take Your Super Back website, we continue to support investors as they try to recover their money. This podcast highlights the stories of three of those – Melinda, Wayne and Susy – who’ve lost hundreds of thousands in the disaster. Investor advocate Melinda joins journalist Jarni in interviewing a cast of characters in Australian politics and beyond, trying to understand how this catastrophe could occur, and what needs to be done to stop it happening again.

And, in an extraordinary exchange, Melinda comes face to face for a frank discussion with one of the people allegedly directly responsible.

This is the human face of Australia’s worst superannuation collapse.

All three episodes of The Collapse are out now. Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts, or on the CHOICE page: here.
